I laughed when I read the first sentence of the Scotsman's gushing advertisement regarding Sarah Brown's yet-to-be-written book about her life in Downing Street:
IT WILL be a tale to which all women can relate: how to shop with Special Branch and compete against the groomed poise of Carla Bruni on a "bad hair day".
Every woman relate? Her tweet read: 'Just agreed with my publisher...' Now ladies, surely we can all relate to agreeing with our publisher?
Anyway, to show I'm not in the least envious, and just in case Gordon's still too busy answering the endless array of thank-you cards down there in North Queensferry, I offer my congratulations. It's not every day an ex-PM's wife/husband writes a book is it? Oh, well there's Cherie Blair, Denis Thatcher. Never mind Sarah, I'm sure yours will be a best seller.
You should write a book Rosie.

Anyway NQ is lovely with 60 armed coppers on every street corner these days.
You can walk back from the pub without fear of some spotty herbert with an MP5 looking at you oddly.
However she will have plenty of time for book signings now if Guidos blogspot is too be believed now the 1 eyed 1 is getting a new jacket fitted. The special straight type.

What a compliment LotF. One of the reasons I started blogging was due to a wonderful tutor at Dundee Uni who tried desperately hard to encourage me to write poetry. I attended her writing/literature class for a few year.
ReplyDeleteBut in that class were many published authors and I was out of my depth. Even though, I decided I wanted my message to get across and a book is a stationery media. With blogging we can show when our opinions change.
I'm off to read Guido's blog. Can't believe that Gordon is slaving over his Parker pen writing thank you letters. :)

Oh no Conan, I'd need help from my friends for a title. Doubt if I'd write a booke (although I started one and did the first chapter some time ago), but as for a title - well you're an expert.
ReplyDeleteI've read, by experts of course, that single word title sell best. I think I'd make mine 'The Life and Times of a Presbyterian Non-Feminist'.
Then I could compete with Gordon's memoirs. He's bound to bring his out once his wife's has flopped.

Denis Thatcher? I'm thinking that was a biography (tribute) by his daughter, was it not?
ReplyDeleteThank you Mrs R. At least I wouldn't be writing about all the 'celebs' I've known because I've never met one. Film and theatre stars yes and many other extremely interesting people, but I'm not in Mrs Brown's league.
