Well I never as they say! I'm sure most of us have tried the Political Compass at some time I've just given it another go having tried it perhaps a year or so ago, (too hot for me to be in the garden). Can't believe I've moved to the left, although it's a position where I'm comfortable.

ReplyDeleteI've done it before and came out left of centre libeterian.
This time I cam out almost dead centre.
OK I'm anti big business which puts me towards the left. But no question that allows me to say strikers should be hung which might move me to the right.
Sure I'm anti big business but I hate unions more. And hey bring back the poll tax, the only fair tax we've ever had. Don't know what the lazy scots had against it.
I've done this one several times before and, as always with these, there are some ambigous ones; some where you agree but not for the reasons that the setter intends or has scored the answer. Therefore always with a pinch of salt.

SC, it has UKIP as more authoritarian than the Conservatives.
ReplyDeleteI campaigned with UKIP locally against Bercow and found the campaign team extremely libertarian. This was Farage and the top level guys. No way are they authoritarian.
I have to say I've not heard anything from the Greens that attracted me to them as libertarians. Most I hear makes me think they all have portraits of Pol Pot.
My result from that is Left 1.14, Libertarian 2.06 Mrs R. Just slightly right of the other one.

Rosie, rather strangely I seem like you to have become more left wing and have crossed the line, although unlike you I am still slightly Authoritarian. This left wing thing worries me. It must be a throw back to trying to defend the SNP's policies at the GE.

Brave of you to support the Poll tax. I'll put my head above the parapet and say the old rates system had something to be said for it. (It was allowed to fall into disrepair, perhaps deliberately to pave the way for its successor).
The merit of the rates system is that it recognises the way local government expenditure enhances the local community.
Or not.
If it does, house prices go up;
if not, house prices go down.
(All else equal, obviously).
The rating system is still the way that businesses pay their dues to the local public purse.
Do you have a preferable alternative to that?
I didn't own a house until my mid 30s Hamish and it was in England where the rates were much cheaper then than here.
ReplyDeleteI really would like to see the SNP's tax but I think they've given up on that. It's too fair perhaps and we can't have everyone paying as much as they can afford can we?
Problem is of course, it's those who get the most state help who shout the loudest in such circumstances.
